Object History (Homage to Rockne Krebs) 2014
BackProjects.html
Laser and Video Installation Commissioned by the Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda, MD.

This work is about an exchange of ideas from one artist to another, art history, and about being an artist. It is an homage to my mentor the pioneering laser sculptor Rockne Krebs. Very important to the work “Object History,” is the use of green screening (the video editing effect) as a metaphor for being an artist. The green screen is actual material (bright green fabric), but is also a presupposition: it is a stand-in for something else, it can become anything else. With editing software, the green screen is removed. The process is like cutting a physical hole through the video image, which leaves a black void. This transition from green to black is very meaningful to me. Like matter and anti- matter, green represents all matter, it is everything, while black is a void, it is nothing.

The metaphor is complete when the black void is filled with content. It is a symbol of the creative process.
