Feeling homesick, I mailed my father my video camera and asked him to record himself playing the guitar and singing. From the footage he mailed back to me I selected a single lyrical phrase, and edited the video so that my father sings this over and over again.

I cobbled the spinning wheel together out of scraps, and an old chair. The spinning wheel turns the loop of VHS tape through a VCR and my father sings. It takes great concentration and finesse to see/hear him clearly through the distortions that occur in the process turning the spinning wheel.
